I have downloaded and installed all the drivers just in case but guess what, the only one that won't work is the audio download.lol man this comp is cursed. When I download it and unzip, then click setup.exe it starts but then an error box pops up with this -536870397 with the only option is to click ok,then it says:fail to install audio driver for winxp setup will close. It doesn't give any details or anything about what went wrong.Maybe I'm missing files from my registry or something because like I said I completely overwrote my hard drive with DBAN.By the way THANK YOU for the effort thus far!!!

It probulary won't install because of the Sound card, and onboard sound is disabled.

Go to creative and get the driver from them. they have an Autoupdate facility, or just punch in the model. http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/

Hope this helps

Just been back to Creative, looked at the driver, it appears after driver install you have to then install the Creative Basic Audio Suite, look here it's No:8 in the list. http://uk.europe.creative.com/suppor...ype=3&x=29&y=8

Read the Show details

Don't forget the Restore Point

Cheers

Yeah I downloaded that when you first sent me there but still no sound.I really appreciate you trying to figure this out but I don't think anyone can.I've been talking to different smart people like you for like 4months now and no one can find a solution.I think I just need to reinstall windows again or just bite the bullet and take it in to get fixed.

Thanks,

Take a llok at this from Annouances.org a reliable site. Look at the update option for Win XP, if you are thinking of reinstalling XP then look at a repair Install, no data lost
Found this at Annoyances.org
Here is the REAL answer!! =)

I found this instructions when looking for an answer to this exact same problem, I followed the directions and wala! I now can see my sound card inthe greyed out areas again! Try it out fellas! Carl's solution worked like a charm for me, once I actually read it carefully enough to understand what was going on. It's truly a stroke of genius, and I strongly suggest you try his process before you go reinstalling your entire operating system. To recap in detail (for Windows XP; YMMV): 1. From Device Manager (be sure to select View/Show hidden devices), find the 'ISAPNP Read Data Port' device from the System Devices list. (Of note: once I successfully repaired this problem, this device no longer appears.) 2. Right click the ISAPNP device, and select "Update Driver" 3. Select "Install from a list or specific location" 4. Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." 5. The step I left out on prior trials: UNSELECT "Show Compatible Hardware" 6. Be sure that "(Standard System Devices)" is selected under Manufacturer. 7. Under Model, scroll down until you see "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator". Select this item, and select "Next>". 8. You will receive some frightening error message that you should probably disregard. 9. Complete the installation of the driver. You will see your device list magically change before your eyes. The other PNP devices will mysteriously become enabled and active. If not, restart. Thank you for posting this solution; it has saved endless hours of reinstallation, and perhaps a marriage as well.
