Another "no sound after re-installing Windows XP" guy... PLZ HELP

I am also querying for help.

I have Windows XP Home Edition, and due to various problems, was reinstalling my OS and reconfiguring my entire computer from scratch. So I know I have sound capabilities. I tried installing 1 Sis driver using Device Manager, and that didn't work.
I tried a solution from an old thread, and tried to download an executable file for RealTek AC 97 ... which had been on this computer before I re-installed Windows XP Home. ... but that did not work, either. I then tried downloading a RealTek HD audio package. This did download and I installed it... but Device Manager did not recognize it.
By this time, Device Manager had an "!" over my Multimedia Audio Controller icon.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Multimedia Audio Controller, and still got an "!"
I used System Restore to go back to yesterday, redownoladed and reinstalled all the latest Windows Updates.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

I downloaded RealTek AC97 audio driver package a3.97, ran it, restarted the computer, went to Device Manager and checked the settings to make sure all sound devices were using this driver. Then I went to "Sounds and Audio Device Properties" and selected, menu by menu, the new RealTek driver for all devices.

Everything seems to be working fine now. These low-end Yamaha desktop speakers even sound better than ever. Literally, stereo quality.

I'm a happy man.

I hope this helps someone as much as "Bookworm"'s myriad advices to others have helped me.

Thanks for the feedback, it really does help other members, downloading and installing is the first part, then you have to tell dumb M$ to use it.

Cheers

It's a Uniwill, the audio for this model (N243S2 ) also applies to your N243S1 http://www.uniwill.com/UserDownload/...3S2.htm#Manual
