What happened to my admin account?

Ok clearly I did something wrong, can someone explain what happened and how I restore my files?

Yesterday I locked myself out of my admin account (reset password and forgot) and had to use a boot disc to reset the pass to get back in. I reset the pass to blank and was able to access my admin account and all my info was intact. As a precaution I set up a second user with admin rights to be my main user.

This morning when I booted up I found it had replaced my old admin and all
my old files, photos, bookmarks etc are missing.

Is there a way to restore my old settings and/or access my original admin account?

Thank you.
