Sometimes if you have other programs open it can interfere with the process of shutting down by hitting the power button. Close all programs before trying to shut down this way. I personally dont like to shut down using the power button because eventually your power button will break. If you just want to turn off your computer quickly though, and a single touch of the power button isnt effective. You can just hold down the power button for 5 seconds and it will power of your PC....it will not shut it down though, just power it off.

There is an option in the BIOS that also could effect your power off options.

When Booting your computer Hold Down DELETE, F8, or F@ whichever one it asks you to to go into the BIOS.

Look for shut down options or anything that could possibly effect shutting down.
