Question after XP re-install music/sounds drag and slow down

I recently re-installed xp on my old Packard Bell I-media P4, all is good apart from the sound! It plays but skips/drags and even slows the music down. I have a Creative SB Live (WDM) sound card and have updated to the latest drivers.....but to no avail. It was playing music great and then suddenly started to stutter and cut out.

Can anybody please help me, if I dont figure it soon I'M gonna be bald

Hi - no I added a usb card a couple of weeks ago but everything seemed to run fine. The sound gets worse when you try do anything else while playing music from HDD or disk dive.
