Problem with computer not turning off.

hey im sorry if this has already been answered in another thread.

i have recently been having problems with my computer not turning off, when i attempt to shut it down normally, (start, shutdown, shutdown) it does everything normal from logging off, saving your setting, then it gets to windows is shutting down, the thing is it doesn't actually shut down.. it just stays on that part.

before this started happening i had been holding in the off key for a few seconds to turn it off if i was to lazy to turn it off properly..

help would be appreciated.

thanks.

Your computer is set to restart on system error. Something, a program or app is not completely shutting down before the system initiates the final shutdown. The system sees this as an error and is doing what it has been told to do. Restart on system error. So the good news is its working like it should. The bad news is something is screwed up.

When you reboot after unchecking auto restart, are you getting a BSOD (blue screen of death)? If so write down everything that is on there including those long 0x0000008e (bug check codes) looking things, and post the message back here.

Also go to start/run and type in Msinfo32.exe Under Hardware Resources, expand the tree and click on each entry. When the system info loads scroll the right window over and check the status to see if everything is OK Do the same for the entries in Software Environment. Let us know what you find.

Afterthought: Have you tried disconnecting the power from the card reader, and roms, one at a time and tried it? Also have you tried it with the sound card pulled out?
