Audio problem

Hey guys/girls well i recently reformatted. Everything was working fine but then i open windows media player 11, all of a sudden my speakers start screeching and my pc runs really really slow like 0.1fps. It does this whenever i open any media file videos, music i tryed using different programs e.g. Winamp but i had the same problem. Ive tested the speakers on a friends computer and they work perfect. Also i have an xbox 360 and if i connect to the internetthen open a music/video player it disconnects my internet, I replaced/update the correct drivers (Realtek AC97) but the problem still exists. Please help, Thanks

I dont own a Dell 3000 sorry i didnt say my pc specs in my post but i forgot to add that i did install a new 80gb hardrive and i stored my music on that drive. I also found that if i left my computer on for 3hours+ and i then went on my computer the hardrive would'nt be there (I have two if you're wondering how my pc can still be running). But i dont know whats happened its just started working i didnt change a thing. Thanks for replying anyway bookworm
