Unknown DVD/CD-ROM in device manager

Greetings all,

This is my first post to the software tips and tricks forum, and from what I see so far, it seems like a lot of you are very knowledgable, so maybe someone can help me out:

For a while I've noticed I have an extra device listed in my device manager which shows up as:

AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device.

It also is assigned a drive letter in My Computer (I

I'm guessing this is a virtual drive of some sort, but I don't know of any program I have installed that would create this. Also, if I delete it from device manager and reboot, it always comes back without fail.

Any ideas?

Really need more details. What kind of computer, any external devices? That might help someone help you.

I solved it myself, actually.. it was Alcohol 120% that was creating the virtual drive.

Yay me!

Hi,
i'm running Vista, and i've been looking for forums that would help me fix the unknown dvd/cd drive, ended up here. the drive outta the blue wont read cd/dvd properly and wont burn, on the device manager it shows "unknown" and there's a question mark on the drive. i'd like to know how did u fix that issue(wat do u mean by it was alcohol 120%...) did u use it to clean it or wat's the deal???
