No Sound... (Sure are a lot of these)

I just got a computer to replace an old one that was getting far too slow. I don't know who made it or it's audio card or anything else of the sort. I sorted out a few small kinks in the system (such as a missing logoff button) and now I realize that there is no sound coming out of the speakers. Unlike some people, I can open windows media player or itunes or whatever and play music, but nothing comes out of the speakers... Well not exactly nothing... the speakers are constantly playing a quiet high-pitched squeal. I did the Belarc test just in case, so...

Report shows a Creative sound card, and the board has Realtek on-board audio. do you have 2 sets of audio plugs, one at top of tower near keyboard, mouse and usb on the I/O plate and another lower down in an exspansion slot ( PCI )

check this
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

hope this helps

Well, There are two levels of audio plugs... One with Greenish Black and Yellow, and the lower level, right underneath has blue, green and pink. I've tried both the greens, and I will be trying the black, yellow and blue.

In regards to the second part, I checked and there's only one option on the Sound Playback menu: SB Audigy 2 Audio (C880)

It looks like it is on-board sound, the Creative audio jacks should be lower down, near where your monitor port is plugged in. this is the Realtek on-board driver http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click to install

i have the same audio, the plug to use is the Green on the lower level.

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE

Hope this helps

Now what? Nothing is different. I've installed the driver, and restarted the computer, yet there is no difference...

Let's see... No, only SB Audigy 2 Audio (C880). Maybe I downloaded the wrong driver? I picked:

Windows 98Gold/98se/Me/2000/XP/2003(32/64 bits) for Driver only. For Windows 98 SE, DirectX(R)8 is required to enable advanced features. (Executable file)

Check this out
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

hope this helps

I Honestly have no idea. It says Viking on the front....

I Could describe it... It has 2 dials on the front... a door on hinges to reveal the CD drive... A digital temperature gage on the front... Other than that...

There is no serial number... Either it was assembled from scratch, or it's... I don't know what... I have a serial number for the fan, though... It has a plexiglass case type thing... inside there are a couple places with "Asus" on it. The Power supply says Antec, and there's something at the back loolking like a motherboard on the far side of the "window" that says ABN32SLI...

OK, have a look at this, it's your board ( Asus A8N32-Sli Deluxe ) page 3 of the review, are your audio plugs set as these, http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...n32-sli/3.html

Cheers

How close does it have to be? It looks very similar, and my Belarc thing says that that's what I have...
