Close RegEdit

Reboot your machine.

Thanks. I finally solved my problem. I set the value to "0" and the Task Manager is restored/enabled. Merry Christmas!!!

scanning computer before editing for task manager

I found a really good program that worked better than Adware and Spybot for finding really bad malicious software before i was able to edit the registry or gpedit to re-enable the task manager.
It's called Malewarebyte's Anti-Malware. It's a free download, although there is a version that can be purchased and it deletes those pesky running applications that some others are unable to.

CNET has the free download.

I hope this helps anyone in this predicament.

Ok I solved my task manager thing by going to this site

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_taskmgrenab.htm

But not that's not the only problem I'm having with my computer. I'm getting pop ups like every 10 minutes or so or just almost every time I visit a website. There's this program called XP Police Antivirus that accidentally got installed on my computer but when I go to the Control Panel's Add/Remove program it's not there. I don't know any other way to remove it. Along with that when the computer is left on for a long, certain, amount of time the antivirus scan thing comes up and a lot of pop ups (not the website kind) repeatedly comes up on my screen for atleast 20 minutes nonstop. I can still do other things on the computer but it really gets annoying and it also gets in the way. A solution was recommended by doing a system restore on the computer but I don't know how to get it started and I'm scared to do it because I don't know what's going to happen besides everything getting erased and stuff. Is there another way I can stop all of this stuff from happening? Like a program I can download? My friend downloaded to my computer C Cleaner that cleans out and deletes files from my computer that I didn't need. It was great but these pop-ups are still appearing anyway.

Here's the link if anybody wants to download it >> http://www.ccleaner.com/

Someone please help me

Task Manager Restored

Task manager was greyed out supposedly by administrator. XP Home ed. Nothing able to fix. Googled question and followed a link by 'Miz' to Kelly's Korner...line 113. Downloaded the file to my desktop, opened and ran it. Dropped my cursor to the taskbar, right-clicked it and the task manager was there. I registered on this forum just to post this. The whole fix took less time than it did to type the first line here. I'm freaked out. Thanks!!

How to enable Task Manager again in Windown XP?

I ran following command under Run, but still my Task Manager is not highlighted

REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

I had already Restarted the Computer once I ran the prompt but in vain.

I also went through the options gpedit.msc under Administrative Templates/System/Ctrl+Alt+Del Options and chosen Remove Task Manager to be Not Configured... I did all this but still finding it difficult to get the Task Manager back.

Click Start > Run > Type gpedit.msc in the box > User

Configuration > Administrative Templates> System > Ctrl+Alt+Del Options

Double Click the Remove Task Manager
