I keep losing my wireless internet connection!

I'm new to this forum, and joined to find out some solutions to the new headache that has emerged with my Compaq Presario R3000 that is running Windows XP. I'd had no problems with my wireless internet capabilities in the three years that I've had the computer. I installed Norton and kept it updated for one of those years and then gave up on it, without any problems. I recently moved, and two weeks after moving to my new apartment (where I share a wireless connection with two other people), my internet connection started spontaneously disconnecting while I was online. My housemates have never had this problem, and have had a steady connection, at the same time that I was not getting one. Typically, I would first lose a connection after about the first 2-5 minutes of using the internet. However, if I turn on the computer and let it sit while I go do something else, it may still say that it is connected 15-45 minutes later. I tried to do a System Restore to some points before the problems began, but this did not solve the problem. I am able to regain a connection by right clicking on the Wireless Network Connection icon and clicking "repair" while turning my connection off and on with the wireless button on the edge of the laptop. As you can imagine, this is extremely annoying and prevents me from downloading software updates.
I looked online and found that there were some conflicts between the new version of Mozilla and Norton, and that the Norton/Windows Firewall was potentially interfering with this connection (although I'd never had problems with this before). Since Norton wasn't updated anyway, I attempted to uninstall Norton, but then my Wireless Network Connection was interrupted because my computer was now "unprotected," and Windows was pissed off. I reinstalled Norton, fudged with some other things, and continued to lose my connection during every session on the internet. I ordered PC-illin, and uninstalled Norton, hoping that the new software would knock out whatever viruses were on my computer and play nicely with the other software on my PC. A few viruses were ID'ed by PC-illin and have not cropped up again, but my internet connection losses have continued the same as before. Does anyone out there know what is going on or how to fix this?
Thanks!

keep losing net connection

hi a newbie here. I just got wif card into my laptop. All was well, for a bit. Then , someone keeps knocking ot my net connection. It will even say " net disabled" a few times. sometimes, I can just reconnect. Sometimes, I need to completely shut down, reboot. Now, you will think this is not intentionally targeting me, but I happen to think otherwise.
long story, I have someone mad at me.
this same issue WAS happening with the home pc ( via cable co)
and now, since I use the laptop when out,
it is happening there, ( but stoppped on the home one )
is there ANY thing I can do to STOP it,
or see where it is coming from ?
I appreciate any help,
Btw, I am not loonie tunes. I catch on quick, and it wasnt hard to see it IS being directed at me.
