Angry No Sound On Xp

I too am having problems with my onboard sound having reinstalled XP after loads of other problems. Everything is working fine but I cannot get anything out of my speakers. All the connections are in and in the correct place. My device manager does not show any problems. I have a Realtek AC97 Audio Controller driver version 5.10.0.6210 which it says is not certified by Microsoft. When I use a headphones in the socket I can hear in one side. Media Player plays the music fine and my TV/radio tuner is working all apart from the sound. I keep trying to update the driver from the files I copied onto an external hard drive before I reinstalled XP but no good. Help please!!!!!!!!

Hi RJT53, is the sound card showing ok in device manager? I would unistall the driver then go to http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
and down load this driver and see if that helps.

I have tried this. The Sound Card also showed as Avance AC97 but when you go into the website they are no longer available and you are redirected to Realtek. Nothing I try seems to be any good. I am at my wits end. It seems so many other people are having the same problem though. Everything is showing as playing OK on Media Playand DVDs show the picture OK it is just the sound that is not there. I do not understand codecs and their significance. Mine is showing as ALC650 - whether that it how it started or whether it is as a result of one of my downloads I don't know.

What make and model is your comp, if not sure get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the software and win update section, if you have the right audio driver then you may have to install manually, but first just check you have the right driver http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Hope this helps

The computer is a Multivision. I did a clean reinstall of Windows and everything was working fine with the sound beforehand. I have not yet run the update to SP2 - I am in the process of rebuilding everything again. I thought I would restart once more as I had done so many system restores I was confused with where I should be. I have everything which was on the computer before is reinstalled Windows on a removable hard drive. I have not as yet updated to SP2. Any assistance would be very gratefully received. I am tearing my hair out.

Here is the Belarc printout.

Not too sure on this one, it could be the Brooktree that has the problem, go here http://72.29.80.128/Forum/

Thanks for this. I have posted on Overclocked as requestetd. I did wonder what the Brooktree device was. I had not come across it before on any checks. How do I find it and delete it if that is the offender?

Don't delete, it is a TV card so may have a bearing on sound, it may be the device that needs the driver.

Cheers

I have a Winfast2000 TV card installed. When I first did the XP reinstall the drivers for this were showing as a yellow question mark but have installed themselves eventually either from the CD with the software and drivers or from some other place. The TV and radio is working fine just no sound.

If you have a CD with drivers and software that came with the comp, try installing this way. Load the CD and then close the program.

Go to Device Manager / right click device with yellow ? mark / click Update driver / click No, not this time / Next / select Install the software automatically(Recommended) / Next. the Hardware Wizard will search the CD and should install the driver, it could take a while to find the driver, give it time.

Hope this helps

I have not got anything with a yellow mark now - all the drivers were found a while ago but did not solve anything.
