Weird Sound Problem

Ok, It's finally annoyed me to the point of posting my own thread. I have been having problems with My sound for over a Year now. I have sound for many things, however on some things there is just no sound. I'm not sure why, just that it is incredibly annoying. I've tried reinstalling drivers many times, and so far nothing has worked.

Some examples of things that sound does work on are: Windows media player, Games, DVD player, And for the most part any other application.

Some examples of things the sound will not work on are: Main Windows Sound (i.e. I don't hear any startup sound when windows turns on, or any other alert sounds) Flash Player does not have any sound (i.e. You Tube and ifilms both show picture, but don't play any sound) And another program called Ventrilo does not give me sound (while playing games it lets you talk to others without typing) (A different talking program called teamspeak works perfectly) That's all I can think of now, but I'm sure there are other things I can't remember that don't work.

I'm not sure of any specs of the computer that I should post, so if anyone willing to help lets me know what to post I'll see what I can do.

I've been searching online for someone with a similar problem for quite some time, but have yet to hear of anything like it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any yellow flags showing in Device Manager, check this out
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

make and model of comp, or get Belarc copy and paste the report, omit the software and win update section
