Lock up on XP

Hi guys

I've experienced this problem for quite some time now but haven't got round to sorting it.

I tend to leave my pc running for days on end. However, on some occassions i retun to the pc after a day or two and i'm unable to access anything. The mouse pointer still moves around and i can open folders etc. However, when i try to run the contents of a folder i get the following message

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item"

I then have to reboot which takes a very long time indeed and i have to manually close several programs (i get the end task pop up). The event viewer doesn't give me any clues as to what may be causing this problem either.

I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help.

BTW i've run AV and spyware cleaners etc but still no joy. My setup is as follows:

Asus P5AD2 MB
1 GB ram
1200gb storage
Sapphire X1800XT gfx card
600w PSU
P4 3.6

However, the link seems to point to one particular file which may be causing a problem. I can't seem to access anything whatsoever when i get a lock up.
