Question sound device problem

hi, i recently got a foxconn winfast motherboard installed into my pc
to change from sd to ddr memory (rather than spend a fortune on sd
memory). when they conected it up they said i didnt need the sound card
and would take it out. for the first week or
so the pc ran fine then the sound disappeared so i cudnt play music
but still had the pc error sounds and the pc started rebooting itself
and freezing often (up to 7 times a day) i have looked on many forums
and sites for the info that i need but no answers have appeared
the
motherboard is a winfast motherboard core series 760GXK8MC - RSH
(designed for windows xp)

info on the booklet says

Support AMD socket 754 Sepron, Athlon 64 processors
P/N 91-185760M20M-40-G
APG 8X
hypertransport
DDR 40
6 CHANNEL
10/100M LAN
IEEE 1394
USB2.0
SATA
SUPER TECHNOLOGY INCLUDING super speed, super boot, super recovery,
superlogo, super step, super bios protect, and super update

info on the box says

Based on SiS 760GX +964 chipset
Support AMD socket 754 Sepron, Athlon 64 processors
Support DDR-400 / 6333 / 266Mhz memory
Support AGP 8X

i have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers on the disk that came
with the motherboard a few times without any luck and looked in device
manager which says i have no sound device installed i have tried
installing a few different ones also without any luck. i dont really
know what i am doing or where to look for things so if you need any
more info on the pc you will have to try and tell me where to find it.

in device manager under sound, video and game controllers i have listed,
audio codecs, lecacy audio codecs, legacy video capture devices,
media control devices, SOUNDMAX integrated digital audio, video codecs,
and under system devices
system speakers in properties, general- it says "no drivers are installed
for this device" device type - system devices, Location - on PCI bus

In system properties - general is says
System, microsoft windows xp, professional, version 2002 service pack 2
computer - AMD sempron(tm) processor 3000+
1.8Ghz, 512 MB of ram
physical address extention

have supplied as much info as i know how to find please can anyone help
am nearly at the end of my tether with it

I also get a little error message up on start up that says "unable to set
tary icon" not sure if this is related or something different

and i have also had an error code of - 536870397
any help would be gratefully received
thanks tan

Have you looked at your bios settings for your onboard sound?

Look in Device Manager for anything yellow flagged, looks like you need the chipset drivers. As you have the motherboard disc you can get Device Manager to install for you.

The SM Bus is the first you need to correct, do it this way, load motherboard disc, then close the programe and leave disc in driver.

Go to Device Manager, right click problem hardware (yellow flagged)- select Update Driver - the hardware Wizard launches / select No, not this time to go online / Next / Install software automatically ( Recomended ) / Next

it will search the disc and install driver for you

if this does not work then you may have to go into BIOS to enable sound, post back for more help.

Hope this helps

how do i find my onboard settings in BIOS?, i know how to get into bios but not confidant enough to go in and change things around, i also have the problem that when the pc has been unplugged for what ever reason, the time and date settings return back to the factory default and i have to go into BIOS and set them myself, im no expert but surely the pc should hold the time for so long without resetting back to factory setting on the time?

This sounds as if the CMOS battery is failing, this holds the BIOS settings when the computer is turned off. You most likley will need a new battery.

Take a look at this, enlarge the picture of the board, the CMOS battery is in the bottom left hand corner.
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/Produc...d=en-us0000074

The batteries are usally the same as used in clocks, very cheap

Hope this helps

thanks bookworm, that had been mentioned earlier, about the battery not holding its charge? when we first put the motherboard in (it was brand new) i will get a new one and keep you updated, could that problem be causing the sound to or will i need to look in BIOS sound

Te fact that your m/board battery is fubar means that your cmos may revert to its default settings as soon as you switch off your pc. Change your battery 1st then reset your onboard sound.

Go here to get the manual http://www.foxconnchannel.com/servic...,760GXK8MC-RSH

it's a Phoenix BIOS it shows how to get to onboard audio, but this was the path I found Advanced BIOS Features / SiS OnChip PCI device / SiS AC97 AUDIO

Hope this helps

Are your audio plugs at the top of the tower, near keyboard mouse sockets on the I/O plate.

Or are they much lower down near the bottom in an exspansion slot

Let me know

Also check this out

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

and this
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

Also go to Device Manager / Expand Systems / is the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture shown as installed

Hope this helps

under hardware these are listed

legacy audio driver
media control devices
video codecs

in control panel - admin tools - componant services
- windows audio is already down as automatic

in the properties it says
audioSrv
path to executable; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\svchost.exe-k netsvcs

in device manager i cant see any expand systems (is it poss called something else)
