task manager clean up?

hi, am trying to clean my pc up a little and someone told me in task manager i should onlyy have around 27 processors, i have 42 running now im not sure how capable this person was (but he did seem to know what he was talking about)
here is a list of processors can anyone tell me if there is any that should not be there or anything i dont need.there is a few doubled up not sure why this is or if it shud be like that, any help wud be gratefully received
i have wrote next to the ones which i know wat they are not sure if these are needed on start up or not

PF usage is running around 444 MB, total physical memory is running about 522670, and system cashe is about 166200 approx CPU usage is reaching a max of around 10 at the min
are there numbers ok or shud they be lower?

Whoever told you that you should have only "X" number of processes running has misinformed you because it's a different number for everyone. It varies with the type and amount of software you have installed. The more software you install which includes memory-resident components, the more processes you will have running. It's different for everyone. And only you can decide which of the third-party stuff you actually need or use.

I am very careful when it comes to having unecessary processes running. Every process I allow to run is essential to my particular system and the applications I use. Anything else gets the chop. Yet despite that I still have 32 running. Since you are using some applications which I don't use (like nero inCD for example which runs two separate processes) it's not surprising you have clocked up 42.

You need to look at those processes which are tagged with your user name. They belong to third-party applications you have installed. Do you actually need them all? The others are Windows system processes which should be left alone.

thanks for that i will try and dwindle them down when i have more time to sit and find out what they are before i actually do anything i remeber last time i found a site that told you what each process was i will have to find it again the only one i cudnt find was the VM_ one really dont know what that one is, anyone know?
