Need a bit more detail, like phone model and cable item description.

I don't think your operating system is causing this. As able said, give more details. I've never connected my mobile to my computer so I don't know much about this. I could help with anything unless it was driver related.

Re:

the cable is for Samsung SGH-X600 and compatible ith some other types too, but the installation guide says that there is no need to connect the phone during the installation. the manual says simply run the driver setup. in the guide is mentioned that the software will not pass the windows logo testing, but says that i need to click on the "Continue anyway" button. but here is my problem. on my laptop appears a window 'the software has not passed the test, and it will not be installed, contact your administrator', and i have just an "OK" button.

in fact i tried the same thing on a PC and there the installation was 'regular'. i had a "continue anyway" button. but there was another problem. after the succesfull installation in the device manager in the device's icon was an exlamation sign too, and there were problems with the other softwares too.

on the following site everybody can download the usb driver, which is compatible with the other cable types too:
http://europe.samsungmobile.com/eng/..._name=SGH-X660

i heard something about that in some bugfixes for windows isforbidden the option to install anyway softwares that fail to pass the test. is this true?

Are you sure you are logged on as an administrator?

It means you do not have full administrator privileges! Someone has set you up to be a limited admin. can you log on as Administrator?
