Problem with Video and Audio Drivers after Reformatting - No Sound and Graphics

Yesterday, I reformatted my PC myself. After reinstalling Windows XP and apps and other programs, I found that I had no sound. I checked Device Manager and found that I didn't have drivers installed for "Multimedia Audio Controller" or "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)".

I then used Everest to check what Video and Audio Adapters I had.
These were the results:

Computer:
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
OS Service Pack Service Pack 2
DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
Computer Name FAMILYPC

Motherboard:
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 2083 MHz (12.5 x 167) 2800+
Motherboard Name Asus A7S8X-MX (2 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN)
Motherboard Chipset SiS 741GX
System Memory 992 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
BIOS Type Award (11/02/04)
Communication Port Communications Port (COM1)
Communication Port ECP Printer Port (LPT1)

Display:
Video Adapter SiS 330 Mirage Integrated
3D Accelerator SiS 330 Mirage Integrated

Multimedia:
Audio Adapter SiS 7012 Audio Device

I went to the Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) Website to look for a driver for "SiS 330 Mirage Integrated" and "SiS 7012 Audio Device".

I didn't find a driver for Sis 330 Mirage, but I found one for the 7012 Audio Device. I extracted it and opened Setup, but after it starts the Installer, and starts installing it comes up with an error message saying "Fail to Install Audio Driver for windows xp. Setup will exit."

I have tried various driver sites, and different drivers. I've tried everything! I still can't seem to install the driver. So now I'm stuck with no sound, and choppy desktop effects. E.g When windows are moved they flicker.

Any help will be greatly, and I mean greatly appreciated. I really need my computer to be running smoothly in order to get some important work done =]. Thanks.

PS. Some more useful info.

BIOS Properties:

Vendor Phoenix Technologies, LTD
Version ASUS A7S8X-MX ACPI BIOS Revision 1005
Release Date 11/02/2004
Size 256 KB
Boot Devices Floppy Disk, Hard Disk, CD-ROM, ATAPI ZIP, LS-120
Capabilities Flash BIOS, Shadow BIOS, Selectable Boot, EDD, BBS
Supported Standards DMI, APM, ACPI, PnP
Expansion Capabilities PCI, AGP, USB

System Properties:
Manufacturer ASUSTek Computer INC.
Product A7S8X-MX
Version 1.xx

I also do not have the original driver discs that came with PC, because I think that the Devices were switched, when I last got my computer fixed.

can i ask....what can i use to check what drivers i need as i got a new laptop which was running vista and i ended up re-installing xp too as none of my hardwear was compatible with vista. i kept vista in partition and just boot from other part with xp in, but now i dont have sound either.

my device manager says all is ok but obviously something is wrong.

im a bit of a novice with computers.

sorry for butting in to ask you.

Umm...try Everest. It scans your comp and tells you what devices you have, so you can Google them and find the drivers.

You can get Everest Here

When you install it follow these steps (It's a bit long so bear with me):

Step 1:

Instead of ticking lots of boxes, I'm going to make it really easy. Click on the Report Button.

Click Next, then click Custom selection, then Next.

You'll need to tick the following:

Under Computer:
Summary
DMI
Overclock
Sensor

Under Motherboard:
CPU
Motherboard
Memory
SPD
Chipset

Under Display:Windows Display
PCI / AGP Video
GPU
Desktop

Click to tick the Multimedia box

Under Storage:
Windows Storage
Logical Storage
Physical Storage (this one may not show on some computers)

Click Next, select HTML, click Next.

It will take between 5 and 20 secs to complete. Once it's finished you'll be shown the report, which will be really really long. Check under "Multimedia" for the sound stuff. Hope this helped.
