COM4 output to USB

Hi
I run a dos program which sends output to com4 PORT. My new computer only has USB. Windows says 'Cannot open com4 port requested by the application. Can anyone tell me how to rout this output to USB? Any help greatly appreciated

More details needed. What dos prog are you running and for what purpose? Have you installed drivers for the device trying to use com4?

Able,
Thankyou so much for your interest,
The program is called CASHDRAW.EXE. As it suggests it sends a pulse to open a cash register. I use it as part of a database package called FMS80
(written in 1980) which runs ok under XP exept for this, and the fact that XP likes to change FMS file extensions to 0X or 1X. If I could find answers to these problems I may stay ahead of Mr Gates for a few more years.
Regards
Geoff

Does XP recognise the USB device?

Sorry for not replying sooner. I've been away. I have not pluged it in yet. Guess I have been looking at the problem from the other end - thinking first step is to get the output to usb. I will try. Do you have any input on my other problem ie XP renaming my file extensions to 0X or 1X ?
Regards
Geoff

You may be lucky when you plug it in, xp may have a driver. You may have to run cashdraw.exe under compatiblity mode to fix the other issues. let me know what happens when you plug it in.

It doesn't work. Guess I will have to look for another device. The file renaming is another issue. I run all this under 98 compatibility mode. If I use my sort program under DOS eg: sort afile.dat output file is afile.dat
Under XP output file is afile.1X. any ideas?
Regards
Geoff
