Help

pc config:compaq presario, 555 mhz,128 mb ram,10 gb hdd. Cd rom. Operating system:win 98 se. Problem: i wanna install windows xp on this machine. But the problem is, there aint any option for boot from cdrom in the bios setup. I ve contacted an engineer for that but he too seems blank about it. The system refuses to start on putting a bootable rom, giving a long 2 line error. How do i install xp now. Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't bother.

128MB RAM - Not bad, recommend 256 or more.
10GB - HD, small, reasonable, but my lag and cause problems with loading a high spec OS.

When you go in to BIOS - Have you got a boot device priority?

Have you got any other bootable CDs? How many CDROM drives do you have?

Make new partition of approx 1 gig and call it D:, copy the I386 folder from your xp cd to your d: drive. boot from floppy and run set up from there.
