Loss of Audio

Hi,
I have recently formatted the C: drive on my computer and have had no problems except for my audio. Videos work, but not the audio. When I try to play any audio file, the message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device..." According to the device manager, all Audio drivers are working properly and in services my audio is enabled. I have also tried downloading the AC 97 Audio Codec from a website but it did not work.
