How to Remove Programs from taskbar

How do I remove these programs that start automatically and run in the background in the taskbar? The help section of WinXP is for morons. Any help is appreciated.

START, RUN, type MSCONFIG, go to the startup tab, uncheck what you dont want. Reboot. A box will pop up. Check the box and click yes or ok.
