Have you tried booting to the XP CD and running chkdsk /r? That may fix things so you don't have to reformat and reinstall.
As far as needing drivers; they are specific to the component/operating system combination.
You need to know the make and model of each component so you can go to that component's manufacturer's web site and download the drivers.
Without knowing the make and model of the video card, sound card, network card, modem and any other components you may have, there is no way we can help you locate the drivers.
If you don't know any of that information, download, install and run
Everest Home Edition. It will inventory your computer and give you information about the hardware.
If it cannot identify something, download, install and run
Unknown Device Identifier.
