installing speakers and monitor

I recently reinstalled windows XP home edition on my computer but now I have a couple of problems:

1.) My speakers are not working and when I try to add new hardware I have a yellow question mark next to 'Multimedia Audio Controller' but when I try to install this the correct software cannot be found. I am using a Dell Dimension 3000 computer and using Belarc Advisor under multimedia is 'Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device'

2.) My second problem is to do with the monitor. After reinstalling windows XP the screen is very 'zoomed in' and I am unable to change my resolution from 640 by 480 pixels and a medium (16 bit) colour quality. following the instructions on how to correct this from the dell website it tells you to go to 'display properties', the 'settings' tab, click 'advanced', go to the 'monitor' tab and under 'monitor type' click on 'properties' and update the driver however this 'properties' button for me is greyed out and unavailable to click on. my monitor is a Dell E173FP LCD Monitor.

Any help on either of these problems would be greatly appreciated.

Look through the disks that came with your Dell for one with "drivers" on the label. It may be labeled "Resource" but it will say somewhere on the label that it contains drivers.

Put that CD in the CD drive and when it opens up, read the instructions on how to use it.

Install the "System" drivers first, then the display (video) drivers and the sound (audio) drivers.

If you don't have or can't find that CD, go to this Dell support page, enter the information about your computer and eventually you'll get to a page with links to download the necessary drivers.
