Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications

Well i must admit, that one of my PC`s have cracked "Windows XP Pro SP2" and lately i have accidentally downloaded Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications KB 905474 update, now every time i log on i get notification from Microsoft that i`m a victim of software counterfeiting... Guess that means, that i`m banned LOL

1st thing- i heard something, that if i get rid of this file (Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications KB 905474) i will be back to "normal", i mean as i was before downloading this file- without any notifications and still able to get most updates. Here appears a problem- i can`t find this file on my PC (Windows folder hidden files browsing didn`t bring it out)- can any1 please tell me where it could be?

Now 2nd thing, if 1st opportunity won`t help, then reinstalling my Windows will help to stop being a "victim"? Or i`ll get notification again as i get connected to the internet?

Any help appreciated TY!

P.S. Sry for my bad english

It won't make any difference whatever you do -- everytime you go to Windows Update they'll insist on checking your installation of Windows (a validation check) before you can download anything, regardless of whether you have the WGA on your PC or not.

Only thing to do is go "legit" by buying a legal retail copy. Format your C drive and do a full re-install from the new CD.

You can still get critical updates with a pirated copy of XP - probably the same with Vista too.
If you reformat don't install the WGA "update" - you will be reminded you "need" it on a regular basis though.

nb. My windows is a legit one that came with the computer - in case anyone was wondering.

Or get Linux!

Smile There is away...

You can stop this validation process and carry on with your updates!!!

But that annoying blue star on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen wont go away ....

step-1 : open internet explorer then click tools...

step-2 : click manage Add-ons... (another window will open)

step-3 : there is a file in there that says windows genuine validation tool DISABLE IT :-) AND CARRY ON WITH YOUR UPDATES

I'm a new member btw.. so hello to you all

You mean "should not" don't you?

I wouldn't encourage pirating windows but if you are stuck with a counterfeit install you should still get the security updates. Microsoft allows this.

There are a few ways of getting around the windows validation. I personally have done it before to tell the truth, but i have now got a legit copy of xp.

If you dont know how to get around anti-pirate tools: DONT PIRATE

(dont ask me how i got around the validation checks either...im not going to encorage pirating no more)

windows validation issues

I accidentally installed the windows validation and cannot get rid of it. I have a legal copy of windows, but it says it cannot verify it. My internet works fine, but it cannot connect or something. I am very annoyed by it and want to remove it, but nobody seems to know how except by formatting the drive and reloading it. I really want to stop it, but reloading my computer is not an option at the moment. Does anyone here have any suggestions?

I believe it is not uninstallable.
