Copying files over network to same pc. Let me explain.
Hey, I have kind of a strange question, but I wondered if any of you might have a solution. Let me explain the setup.
I have two PC's, PC1, main pc, used for everyday pc uses, and PC2, a dedicated media pc running XP MCE 2005, hooked up to the TV in the living room.
Every now and then I need to copy a large file on the media center pc to another location on the media center pc, like another hard drive, or a flash drive. Mind you, I am not trying to transfer over the network, just from one location on that pc to another location on that same pc. However, I'd like to do it remotely.
Normally, if I need to access this box remotely, I just use VNC, which I do all the time. However, alot of times I need to copy files around when someone is watching TV or a movie. And using VNC screws it all up for the viewer. I'd like to be able to do this just through mapped drives on the other pc, however, when trying to copy something from one mapped drive to the other, it transfers it over the network, which not only takes twice as long, but is not needed. Anyone know how to do it without transferring the files over the network?
