Question Strange sound plays (virus?)

I am WAY above the average computer user, but I can't seem to fix this problem.

I have Norton Antivirus installed, and scaned with an online scanner where it found a virus, that I removed.

I also ran Spybot - Search & Destroy and Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Professional (all updated).

I also have norton firewall..

It removed some spyware, but I couldent get rid of my problem.

The thing is that windows plays a sound clip (like a whipping sound of some sort). lasts 2 seconds or so, and this plays every now and then (5-10 min apart), also when I turn on my computer, and off...

Any advice to fix this annoying problem?

It is NOT a windows sound, since I disabled all windows sounds.

I also closed all programs that I had up, and cleared out as much as I could from CTRL+ALT+DEL

Thanks,
Vilhelm

Is a contradiction in itself in my opinion.
Uninstall 'snortin' Norton. Install AVG7 and Sygate personal firewall. Then run an online scan. I recommend www.trendmicro.com/housecall
If this doesn't work we'll run a HJT scan

Ran the scan again, this time it didnt find anything at all (trendmicro).

Havent heard it for a while now, but I did a HJT scan and removed some spyware that was on my PC.

But would you mind seeing if there is anything I am missing, or things I can "kill" so booting up goes faster. My windows also runs a WHOLE bunch of svchost etc.

I seem to have the same problem as Vilhelm - the same "whipping" sounds which appear absolutely randomly. I have had this probelm for years now, on two PCs, using different USB-Audio devices and I have re-installed Windows XP several times.

Very annoying!!

I know that e-mule, which I currently have running is known for ad- and spyware, but I only have installed this recently and the sound problems have occurred before just as well.
