Windows stuck at start up

Hi, so I was using my computer and it started getting very slow so I restarted. Now the problem is when I try to start windows its stuck on "Windows is starting up" the part which is usually before they ask you to log in to windows. Anyone know what I can do about this?

Thanks

If you have an XP CD, put it in the CD drive and see if it will boot to the CD.

If it does, choose Repair the first time it's offered and eventually it'll get you to the Recovery Console, a DOS-looking screen.

Type "chkdsk /r" (without the quotes, with the space after "chkdsk"), press the Enter key.

When the scan is finished, (it can take a while, be patient), type "exit" (without the quotes) and press the Enter key.

If chkdsk was able to find and repair the errors, it will boot on into Windows.

Hi thanks for the reply, Currently I have Windows XP and Vista installed on this computer, with Vista only on reduced functionality at the moment. So when I start my computer it always brings me to the Windows Boot Manager, so I am unable to boot from the CD anyway I can get around this?

Thanks

You probably need to get into the BIOS (also called Setup) to move the CD drive up to first in the boot device order.

Thanks for the reply, is there anyway I can stop Windows Boot Manager from starting up? Cause it no longer gives me the option of going into set up, it just starts up and goes straight into boot manager.

Thanks
