Question Critical Updates Installation

Ganged a series of critical updates which appeared to have downloaded succesfully but did not all install upon the restart since they still uppear as available updates. When I attempt to re-download a single update manually it completes immediately but gives me a "No Updates were Installed... try again" message after the installation step. Is there a way I can see which updates have actually been installed and which of them I still need to install, and how would I install them given the error message? Thanks in advance for the help.

Go back to Windows Updates and click on "Installation History" in the left column.

Installation history shows a number of failed installations, the very same installations that give me the error message when I attempt a re-install.

If your memory is full you will not be able to complete a download without failure. This may not be your problem, however, cleaning up your computer should be a top priority before performing any downloads or installations. After a thorough cleanup, then you can address other possible solutions.

Critical Update Installation Problem

Same result after thorough cleanup. No memory problem either... 512 MB RAM. Not sure what to do next.

I used to have Dial-up and then I would occasionally have a download failuer due to Dial-up "glitches." If you have Broadband then you may have a modem that is "dropping" you. I also had that problem after getting DSL. However, this was early on and the phone company replaced my modem. No problems since.

If your computer is clean and otherwise, trouble-free, then this is most likely your problem.

If your download was successful but the update did not install, go to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Catroot2 and delete or move or rename the "Catroot2" folder ( Windows will automatically recreate a new Catroot2 folder). Once, you've removed the Catroot2 folder, return to Windows Update and try the download again. This has worked successfully for many people (including me) and I'm unaware of any problems with deleting Catroot2.

Success.... removing Catroot2 did the trick. Not sure I want to know why, or else I'll start wondering about Catroot1. Thanks all for the help.

Thanks for posting back. It can help others to know what was tried, what succeeded and what didn't work.
