Inserting CD/DVD reboots Computer

I only have this problem lately and can't put a finger on it. Every time I insert a CD or DVD into the drive my computer reboots. This only started happening in the last 2 weeks. It could be some program install but then I install/uninstall many programs each day/week so can't be precise. I know this is a common problem but can't find a solution yet. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Another problem is that Windows Media Player 10 doesn't show up in ADD/Remove programs apart from security updates. Why?

Just happened again! I looked in Event viewer and the following is what it said: "The Driver detected a controller error on Device\Harddisk0\D".
I have WinXP Pro on the C:\ partition.
