Multimedia audio controller

Hi, im new to this whole forum thing so i really won't understand what u guys need right away but i got a dell dimension 8400, one day i restarted and after that my mic was not working but i can hear everything perfectly....i look under device manager and see that there is a yellow ? on multimedia audio controller and i try to update driver but my wizard can't find an update....i also erased the soundmax on accident from add/remove programs and i don't have the cd because my computer came with it. if somebody can help me i would really appreciate it because i am so lost right now

so i downloaded that audio thing and restarted think its gonna do something for my mic but now the yellow ? on audio is gone which means i do have it all installed but i still can't talk on my headset nor can i talk on my single mic

In a program called Ventrilo it gives me a message saying "InputFindVolFader failed (-1) for non-Mux based mixer" and in Windows Recorder it doesn't even register when i talk
