Going from Vista to XP: Sound Driver Problem, Gateway MT6705

There are dozens of threads here that are asking for help in regards to missing/broken sound drivers. I've been working on this for two days. Here's my problem.

I bought a new laptop (Gateway MT6705) with Vista. I installed XP Pro SP2 on it this weekend. I've found the drivers for everything but the sound card. I've tried everything, including windows hotfixes, SigmaTel programs, Creative drivers, everything I could find.

The sound card (and the "modem in high definition audio bus") simply refuses to use any driver or workaround I can find.

Please help. You're looking at a desperate woman.

Here's my Everest Report:

The sound is SigmaTel 9250, which I've heard is giving a lot of people headaches. Is there a solution?

Please help. Thank you.

This may help I hope. Download the drivers you need. Put them on your desktop. Now go to your device manager, (right click "my computer" to to properties, hardware tab, and click on device manager.

Find your soundcard. Right click and uninstall it. Windows will tell you to reboot. Go ahead and reboot. When windows xp starts it should say found new hardware. When it asks about installing drivers, dont let windows find the drivers for you. You do it. Browse to your desktop and point to the drivers you have there. See if that does the trick. If not. Uninstall and reboot, and let windows give it a shot. Hope that helps.

With xp, and I would guess vista, have the drivers on hand. Find them on the net, or find the disk that came with your computer. The soundcard or some other hardware issue. Simply uninstall it with the above directions. Reboot, and try the methods mentioned above. I strongly suggest with vista, talk to another geek and see if the method will work. I am not a fan of vista, dont really use it. With vista, who knows. Trying a reinstall of a soundcard may be a bad idea. I make no promises. With xp I have done it countless times and works well.

Thanks. I've tried many different suggested drivers. A lot of people have this compatibility problem with SigmaTel 9250 and XP. I've tried generic drivers, Creative drivers, and SigmaTel software in conjunction. I've probably downloaded 20 or 30 drivers and employed every manner of uninstalling and reinstalling I've read about. It may just be that no driver exists for Windows XP, but I'm still hoping someone has come up with a workaround and I haven't happened to find it.

Any success?

I am having the same problem. Has anyone had success? I have seen posts where alternate drivers were used and I have had no success. I even called MS to get the 888111 hotfix to no avail.

Try here for Sata drivers.
Start here for your other drivers.

Konidee - I had the same problem with my Dell. No driver would work. What finally did solve the problem was installing all the windows updates since SP2. Once all the updates were isntalled the HD Audio driver worked like a charm. Hope this works for you too

Another things....along with the updates, also install the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver version 1.0a from windows.

Download from http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/...howtopic=47079.

I think the updates and this driver should solve your problem. Let me know

I have done everything listed here and now I just get the error that the device can not start. That might be an improvement. Anyone else had any luck? If so, what did you do. I am on a gateway MT6705 like konidee.

I'm looking for the SATA drivers needed for Gateway MT6705 laptop for Windows XP at bootup (when you install XP - hit F6). The one you pointed out was a ".exe" file, which can only be used when XP is online. I am TRYING to install XP on this laptop, but it is STILL NOT RECOGNIZING my SATA hard drive...

ANYONE...
any suggestions/hints would be greatly appreciated

thank you

Solutions

The correct XP drivers for the MT6705 are to be found at
http://support.gateway.com/support/d...Sigmatel&st=kw

I installed this today, and so far it appears fine. (I have sound)

pg64159:
To get at the .sys files from the SATA exe, run 'setup.exe -A'. The files you want will appear in a folder named 'C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel Matrix Storage Manager\Driver' or similar. The name of the actual driver to select when you hit 'F6' will contain the text 'ICH7' and 'Mobile'.

I successfully removed Vista and installed XP Pro. All drivers working fine except I still can't find an Ethernet Controller driver.
