Scratchy Sound after formatting/reinstalling Windows XP

I have reformated and clean installed Windows XP to my PC, "TravelMate 270".

I get scratchy/crackling sound all the time, when I play mp3, music CDs, movie files, etc. Before clean installing Windows XP, my PC's audio was perfect.

This is what I've done so far. Nothing has worked and still getting scratchy sound.
  • Reformatting and Installing Windows XP again
  • Installed Windows XP as "Standard PC" instead of ACPI PC
  • Downloaded latest driver softwares from Acer, Sis, and tried Realteck
  • Disabled any ports which are not in use
  • Installed external/usb sound card. sk-8 from sinovoice. Scratchy sound even I set sk-8 as default.
  • Played music with headphones on

Thank you for reading and helping.

Go here to Acer Europe http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...ok/tm_270.html

install the SiS VGA and system drivers ( Chipset ) then Resart your comp, then install the audio from Acer

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Thank you for your reply, bookworm.

I just tried your suggestion, and I still get the same problem. Maybe, I can try windows 2000, instead of xp....

I also removed all audio codecs and video codec but essential ones, still scrathy sound though.
