Odd blue desktop background problem

My current background on my desktop is a blue screen. When I try to change this, I right click, go to properties, go to desktop where I can normally choose my background, and it will not allow me to choose my background. I have tried a number of things to solve this problem, but nothing will work. Please help me restore my desktop so I can view a picture background again!

thanks,
()liver

Hi, try this link http://www.the-pc-guru.com/Cannot_ch...top_wallpa.php

Before starting make a system restore point.

If Monty's advice doesn't work for you the problem may be caused by a specific piece of malware. Trouble with desktop backgrounds is a characteristic of a Spysheriff infection.

Let us know what happens after you do what Monty advises. If you still have problems we'll use the fix procedures for Spysheriff.

Send a message via MSN to DaveC2003
Click Start-Run and type:

regsvr32 /i shimgvw.dll
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

See if the problem is resolved. If not, proceed further:

Is Active Desktop Wallpaper set? If so you can remove from the registry (for
stand-alone systems).

Create a System Restore point, or take a valid registry backup.

Open Regedit.exe and navigate to these locations one by one:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mic...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pol... Panel\Desktop
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mi...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Po... Panel\Desktop

In the right-pane, delete the following values if they exist:

1. Wallpaper
2. WallpaperStyle

Close Regedit.exe and re-login.
