extremely high pf usage

ok, for starters i have a p4 3.0, 1 gb ram, 7800gs agp video card and i am running xp pro. When i start my computer my pf usage starts at around 300mb, which i think is normal becuase thats what it has always been at. But the longer i let my computer run, the higher it goes up. My computer ran for about 12 hours without a restart from yesterday afternoon to this morning and i was at 2.4 gb!! plz help!

pf usage is "page file" usage which is a variable amount of hard drive space that is dedicated to your total system memory.

mnymn3 ... this isn't something I'm very familiar with so perhaps others here will be able to help more.

This may give some idea (it's a very useful discussion to read on the topic) ......

Hope something here helps you out.

Have you done any kind of virus or spyware scans?
If you want to control the page file yourself you can set a max size that it can't exceed. If you do this it may impact your system performance and if there is an infection that's causing it the system may crash when it hits the max you set.

I'd recommend starting off with a quick virus scan followed by spyware scans using adaware 2007 and spybot 1.4.
