DVD playing problems with windows media center.

Hello, I am relatively new to these forums, and I joined to get some help on a problem with windows media center.
You see, when it plays a DVD, (or any video, really ) the audio will be glitchy, the voices skip and there is a strange clicking noise on the track. The video also has slight glitches in sync with some of the audio glitches. I get the same problem with windows media player. The problems don't render the DVD players useless, just king of annoying and difficult to watch.
When I play it on a normal DVD player (the kind that goes to a TV ), it works fine.
Anyone know what is wrong here? Is it a settings problem, or is another program interfering?

Any help or advice would be well appreciated.

I am running this on windows XP media center edition 2005, my computer is equipped to handle DVDs, it seems to have happened sine I Got the Computer, and I am running norton and AVG auto protection at the time (although it probably does not matter much, because it did it without the programs)

Here is a great link for a good virus free video player.. my cousin was having the same type of problem as you, but it was that the volume was really low.
