I accidentally deleted my sound...

I was using the Add/Remove Programs application and I deleted SoundMAX, and now I can't hear anything from my computer.

I've tried to download everything on the face of the planet, but nothing works.

Can someone PLEASE help?

need more info, make and model of comp, or if not sure Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

Soundmax driver here http://support.euro.dell.com/support...iceTag=C8NGQ11

install this way

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)C:\DELL\DRIVERS\r56339

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver C:\DELL\DRIVERS\r56339
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion slot then you have a Sound Card installed, see here, click the image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

did you get this driver http://support.euro.dell.com/support...3&fileid=67126

install this way, do not use the Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update

This is your audio driver from Dell http://support.dell.com/support/down...3&fileid=92933

but you need to make XP use the driver, the Setup.exe install fails make a note of the Dell cab file it extracts to and then install this way

7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver. C:\DELL\DRIVERS\r71579
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
