Error installing Xp Pro, advice needed
am having a problem installing windows xp pro
Just finished setting up my computer and tried First install xp pro, everything was going great until I got to
"Windows installation" part. as it starts off with 39 more min to complete I recieve and error message:
Fatal error one of the components that windows needs to continue set up could not be installed. Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
if installing from CD might be problem etc.....
Error Installation failed: D:\I386\asms.
I shutdown check bios, everything ok, reboot np get to xp pro installation again and it runs for a few minutes then I recieved another error...
Same as before except added this ...
error SXSLL:syntax error in manifest or policy file "D:\I386\asms\1000\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS.MAN"
Everything I doubled checked, connections and such all seemed right and ok, cables check...
boot from hd/boot from cd ok, error in windows installation.
I wiped and cleaned CD again, I checked surface before and after, brand new scratch free, I opened the sealed pack myself, not a pirated copy, all legit.
any advice pointers or something I missed appreciated
Im thinking bad disc? *scratches head* I know it rarely happens so i'm trying all other possibilities,
thanks for any bones you can throw my way.
Edit: PS I did format my HD with xp pro with in the install, and even tried to reformat it one more time just in case (slower option)
Edit : Thank you for posting links.. I have a new liteOn cdrw drive, I have an older plain cd rom drive in another computer I can switch with and try to install when I get home from work.
Edit: Thank you for responses..
Specs are - (all new)
CPU AMD 2500+ Barton
2 sticks Corsair 3200 Plat.
WD 80 HD Caviar ED
Lite ON cdrw
Radeon 9700 pro VidCard
Abit NF7-s mobo v2.0
Edit: I also have my wifes copy of xp home from her laptop if it is worth trying to temporarily installing to see if it is the disk, as a last resort I hate to think a new 135.00 cd is the problem?

You can't do anything if the CD is damaged. :/
Contact the shop from where you purchased your copy, you will get a free replacement.

Was this resolved? How?
I have the exact same error code, and am scratching my head to figure it out...
I'm running a P3 700mhz cpu, with dual boot 2000 pro. I installed the 2000 on one partition in my 1st hard drive. Then (after making sure 2000 was installed fine) started installing xp on the remaining partition there... got some file couldn't copy errors, and now its the same as the above prob... Can it be due to the partition? I'm pretty sure the HD is fine.... and the CD should work, not scratched all that much...
Can I individually copy the 4 files marked as missing during the install from the command prompt? Where would I put them?
{: msgpc.sys, msdxm.ocx, mshtml.dll, msexc140.dll (I think that last one is the correct spelling/name.) }
Did you solve your problem? how?
Edit : It looks like your CDrom drive was the prob? I can try installing from another one, but that cdrom drive worked fine for the 2000 install!

this happen if the setup can not load the driver for your CD Rom drive after the first reboot of the setup
nothing wrong with the CD Rom drive or the windows XP CD I don't think

if you have 2 CD Drive in the computer please try another drive
if that not working might have to do something else
if you can get online from another computer you might want to look at this and try it

Yep /\ sometimes its best to install winXp CD with just one Drive plugged in,
I have also had to remove a newer DVD rom drive and use an older 52x CD drive to install windows..
I also found one time that is was problem sectors on the hardrive where winxp was installing and I ended up buying a new hardrive for the OS and formatting the old drive and using it as HD#2.
Good Luck keep us updated

Error Reading Disk After XP is Installed
I installed a new Hard drive, went through the proper install, when it re-booted it said hit any key to boot from Cd, which I didn't need to do, then I got a an error message, Error reading disk, pres ctrl alt del to reboot, did it and got the same error message. It is a totally clean hard drive, new cable connecting it to the mother board and an authorized version of XP. Did a total format, not quick and it is still messed up. Never had this before.

i had the Fatal Error when installing XP pro also. I have multiple CD/DVD drives so on hand so I simply got one out and tried it and it worked fine oddly. No real reason it should of worked differently since I have done multiple installs with the one that gave the error.
Would be nice if there was a tech forum where you could post without signing up i hate signing up when i have a simple answer

As the user 'The Tool' has said you can't do anything if the CD is damaged. Cyclic Redundancy Check, a.k.a. CRC errors, relate to an error on the disc. Either the data on the disc is corrupt in some way or the disc is physical damaged with scratches.
