Programs not working, should I change back to XP?

Yesterday I suddenly dropped out while I was playing Eve online, and found myself not being able to log back on. First it said it was proxy error, or something like that but after a few tries I couldn't even get back onto the loggon screen. It freezes and doesnt respond just before it opens up. I also can't seem to open or close Skype in the lower right bar. I discovered this about simultaneously as the Eve problem.

They are both online programs, but surely I should be able to get into the program anyway? They've both worked brilliant since I upgraded to Vista about a week ago, no problems whatsoever.

Question is, why would some programs suddenly stop working when they worked perfectly fine just earlier and no apparent changes have been made to the computer or software otherwise? I've run every spyware, reg fix and virus program I can think of too. Do I need to change my OS back to XP for these programs to work or is there any other way?

Thanks for any suggestions
