Norton > I see the confusion now. You originally said you had Norton
antivirus but you didn't mention a firewall. Hence my concerns.
You now confirm you have Norton
Internet Security which is both antivirus AND firewall. So all seems to be well on that issue then.
Save > I suggest you run a system-wide search for "save.exe" (without the quotes). If it is found on your system make a note of where it is and post the folder name & full location address in your next post here.
IE > If you are using Internet Explorer make sure you are using the latest version ... version 7. It looks as though you still have a much older version on your system.
On the other hand you might like to consider using an alternative browser such as Firefox, Opera, Flock etc.
Java > having brought your java up to date it has just moved on from update 2 to update 3.
Update time again.
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 to your desktop from here

- Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
- Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
- Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
- Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
- Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
- Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
- Then install the newest version by double-clicking the update file you just downloaded to your desktop.
Cleaner > when you browse the net, or even just use the computer normally, you build up clutter. Temporary files and such. You should run Ccleaner to help clean out your system and free up disk space.
Get Ccleaner here but ensure you install it WITHOUT the optional Yahoo Toolbar download (you must untick/uncheck the relevant box on download)

file associations > to ensure your file associations stay in place correctly download DAFT from here ....

Save it to your desktop:
- Double-click the daft.exe icon. Read the disclaimer and click OK.
- Click on the Scan button.
- If it finds faulty file associations, they will appear in red beside a checkbox. If this occurs, just place a tick in the boxes in question.
- Click the Fix button.
- Re-scan and save a logfile. By default, it will save as daft.txt.
Post the contents of that logfile with your next post.
Once you are finished I will post some final thoughts on keeping your system as safe as possible.
