Unhappy Problems after a virus/malware. please help

I have Windows XP HE. My problems started yesturday. Below are the virus' that have caused them i presume after scans on norton anti virus.
Trojan.killAV
Downloader.Zlob

I have managed to eradicate trojan.killAV from my system. and i think ive deleted the downloader.zlob. However it has left me with a whole host of problems.

My first problem is that i cannot get into my control panel. it has disappeared from my start menu and my computer menu. i have right clicked and gone on the start menu tab etc to enable control panel but this does not appear in the list like it should.

The second is that it has changed loads of commands in my registry blocking me from doing things on my computer. The main message i recieve is "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer"
I have been through the forum but cannot work a way of fixing this problem. The message appears when i try and click on the icon next to my user name at the top of the start menu. It also appears when trying to access the control panel thoruhgh Start>Run>Control Panel.

The last problem is that in my toolbar in the bottom right hand side of the screen pops up saying that i have malware and a virus and i should download some anti virus software. now i have norton and downloaded avg and neither have picked up on a spyware issue.

I also noticed advice to others saying to produce a highjack this report so i have done this and included below.

If you can help in any way it will be much appreciated, thankyou.

Your computer is riddled with malware. it will take quite a bit of fixing.

Firstly, make sure you have only ONE antivirus program running at any one time. Your machine seems to have both Norton and AVG on it. If one/either needs disabling please do so.

Secondly firewalls. Again make sure you have ONE firewall running and also make make sure it's a good one, i.e. do not rely on the Windows firewall.

Thirdly, you use Limewire and you visit the FunWebProducts website. Both these will result in your machine being infected with malware. I urge you not to use either.

*************

To clear out some of the infections do this.

Go here ....

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic17258.html

....and follow the procedures for removing smitfraud.

*************

Next download Combofix from here .....

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...a/ComboFix.exe

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
Note >> Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

When finished, it will produce a log for you. The report is called ComboFix.txt.

Post that log in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log AND an update on how the computer is operating now.

I did reply previously by my reply seems to have disappeared. I’ll try again.

The log is looking better but there are still things to do.

Please let me know which firewall you have chosen to use on this computer.

*******************

Limewire and FunWebProducts website are still on your computer. Again, please let me know if it is your intention to continue using these.

*******************

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall/remove the program called Save.

*******************

Next open HJT ... click on 'Do a System Scan Only'... put tick/check marks next to the entries below IF still present BUT NOTE ... I have assumed the 06 entries were not added by a network supervisor, or similar, and that you don't know why they are in the log.

If my assumption is wrong do NOT fix them with HJT but let me know.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WhenUSave] "C:\Program Files\Save\Save.exe"

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/noc...1.0.0.15-3.cab

Remember to close ALL open browser windows – including this one – before clicking on “Fix Checked” at the foot of the HijackThis window.

*******************

Go to this folder in BOLD and delete it IF it is still present …..

C:\Program Files\Save

*******************

Empty your recycle bin.

*******************

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says
"The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications"…..
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Post a fresh HJT log with an update on how the computer is working now.

Firstly the firewall im using is norton antivirus' and windows' has been disabled.
***
Secondly i am still going to use limewire even though you suggest i dont. I don't use it to download anything dodgy!!
Im not sure where the funwebproducts thing came from, so that can be deleted.
***
Thirdly the Save file was not in add/remove programmes list or program files but still came up in the hjt report so i did what you said and fixed the problem in hjt.
Im not sure if this has been resolved.
***
The system appears to be running much smoother now. oddjobs you appear to have saved my system. thanks a lot mate. my new hjt report is below. again does anything else need doing? Thanks

Hi Matt

Good news. The log is now free of malware.

norton antivirus is not a firewall. The two are different.

It is vital you install and use a good (free) firewall if you don't have one. Here are some to choose from ......

Zone Alarm > http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten...n&lid=nav_z a

Sygate > http://www.simtel.net/product.downlo...s.php?id=53687

Sunbelt Firewall (formerly Kerio) > http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home...onal-Firewall/

Comodo > http://www.comodo.com/products/free_products.html

Jetico > http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/jpfirewall.htm

Im not sure if this has been resolved.
Well, "Save" isn't in your log and there’s no longer any signal that it’s running on your system.

Did you manage to delete the "Save" folder, as I instructed, even though it wasn't in Add/Remove Programs?

Just to check I'd like to see a list of programs starting on your system.

Open HijackThis.

Click on Open Misc Tools Section

Make sure that both boxes beside "Generate StartupList Log" are ticked/checked ….
> List all minor sections(Full)
> List Empty Sections(Complete)
Click Generate StartupList Log.

Click Yes at the prompt.

It will open a text file (it could be quite long).

Please copy the entire contents of that page and paste it here.
