Services not working

As of friday I have been having major problems with my computer. I did not install or uninstall anything. The computer is extremely slow audio and video are extremely choppy. I have defraged, done disk checks, antiviruses and spyware in both normal and safe mode. I have even done an online antivirus check all of which turned up nothing
I have played around with msconfig a little and I noticed that most of my services are listed as unknown manufacturer and are stopped. There is no way for me to enable them either. This means my nortons no longer loads up and my wireless doesnt work period among other things.
I am running the XP with SP2
Acer TravelMate 8210
Intel Core 2 @ 1.66GHz, 1.67GHz
1.00 GB of RAM

Have you attempted system restore to an earlier time when everything worked?
