Pictures

Everytime i try to upload pictures my computer freezes. I click the browse button and it goes to my pictures and then the internet explorer just freezes and I have to do ctrl alt delete. Also, my computer severly slows down when I open 'My Pictures.' I can put pictures on from a CD, but that's it. I have no idea what's wrong.

You mean whilst trying to upload pictures to a website similar to PhotoBucket?

When the Browse to File window opens, can you navigate other folders ok and it only locks up when you open MY Pictures?

How many pictures are there in the My Pictures folder? And are the pictures there of a large size? Can you access the pictures ok from within other programs such as Explorer or ACDSee?

Try making a new folder with your My Documents folder and copying your pics there. Then try again.

I have one folder of pictures in my pictures because i thought having too many was why it was freezing. but for some reason it won't let me delete the last folder. it said it's like being used by another program, but i don't know which?!

and when i try and upload pictures to any site it freezes. I can't switch folders either. So when i try to browse pictures when i try to upload them to sites like facebook or myspace or anything related it freezes.

It also doesn't work if i try to upload pictures by using a usb.

Right-click the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, select Task Manager, then Processes. You will be able to identify which service is hogging your CPU. Post it here, the full name of the service.

Have you tried changing the views in your pictures folder from, say, thumbnails to tiles? Maybe a problem with thumbnail generation?

Are there many pictures in the My Pictures folder? If there are, then it will take a considerable while for Facebook to catalogue them all and may well appear to have locked up whilst doing so.

Copy them all from the root My Pictures folder and categorise them into folders by type containing only a few in each. I think you'll find that navigating to them and uploading them will become easier.

You may well find that one or more are corrupted (in which case delete them), and uncopiable. This is another reason why your computer might lock up (trying to read a corrupted file).

i think the one file i have left in my pictures is virused.
when i try to delete it this comes up
"cannot delete thumbs.db: it is being used by another person or program. close any programs that might be using the file and try again."

but i don't know another program that would be using it.

and i tried switching the view but it didn't work either. and there is one folder of pictures in my pictures which im pretty sure contains like 10 pictures. so there isn't a lot.

Here's a useful app (free) to shut down processes that lock files:

Then delete and reboot.
