Microphone boost and noise

Hi,

I am using Windows XP Sp2 .

Sound card - CMI8738 4CH without SPDIF, Line-in and rear speaker o/p share the same jack.

Microphone booster is enabled. There is no advanced options as to adjust the dB. If I record without Boosting, the volume is tooooo low even when the mic slider is at the top in the record setup. So I enable the Mic booster. The problem is the noise that accompanies when recorded with the Booster on. I know its the signal to noise ratio that causes this when the original signal is amplified. But I want to bring the noise down somehow at least to a bearable extent.

Can anybody help me with this?? Exempting the option to go for a better soundcard. Coz my sound card works best except for this.

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Chandhini
