Have no sound, except through media players?

The past couple days Ive been having acouple of issues first issue is that I dont have sound through the internet or through programs like powerpoint. the second issue is that on the keyboard i am unable to control the computers audio volume control unless nero showtime is popped up also i cant get the sound contol module to show even though its checked to show at task maneger, i havent a clue whats wrong, the drivers are enabled

Did you ever get any response or resolution on the sound error? it just started with my computer a couple days ago - I can listen to sound fine via windows media player, but nothing else - and when I click on the sound properties, it says there is no audio device. Whatever you can share would be greatly appreciated.
