When I double click an internet explorer 6 desktop shortcut icon, 2 internet browser windows open, and then they both freeze for about 5min. Then they both go to the page that they are supposed to. It also seems to happen with internet links that are set to open in a new window. Something similar happens when I select a favourite from the Favourites menu in IE6,
Here is what happened to lead up to this problem:
1. I installed IE7 stand alone (bad idea).
2. The problem started.
3. I uninstalled IE7 stand alone
4. The problem continued
5. I re-installed IE6 from the windows XP cd
6. The problem continued.
7. I re-installed windows
8. The problem fixed.
9. Windows updates stopped working,
10. I performed the tasks indicated here:

11. Windows update fixed.
12. Original desktop shortcut problem returns.
Any thoughts on this?
