0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file

I have recently had to reformat and remove some problem programs from my laptop and now it refuses to pay either CDs or mp3 files, both in Media Centre and in Media Player. This is the message I get:

0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

And so I have run the Belarc Advisor as suggested in bubbl3l3ta's original post with the same problem. Unfortunately I can't make heads nor tails of the information, and I was hoping someone would be able to do that for me. Please tell me if you need any more of the report:

It seems from your post that you do not have a sound driver installed (no sound device is listed). Unfortunately we need to know the make and model number of your laptop in order to find the correct drivers for it, and apart from some reference to Dixons we don't have that information. If you can post the exact make/model we will try to help you.

Hi,
Depending how you formatted your laptop, you can try and reinstall the sound drivers by going in to:

My Computer - C: - Application - Driver - Audio

OR you could go to:
http://support.thetechguys.com/layou...-27d3e09086b2}

Try that and see how you go

Question I'm having the same problem

I'm working on an HP Pavilion dv2415nr notebook, and it came with Vista installed. Problem was, Vista wouldn't connect to our office network or work with the older applications we use. So I reformatted to XP and now I get no sound. In device manager under sound, video, and game controllers I have listed: Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Devices, Media Control Devices, and Video Codecs. They're all "working properly" but the "device usage" where you would usually have the option to enable or disable is grayed out. Dunno for sure if that's normal, but I don't think it is.

Okay, so I tried Berlarc and here's the main circuit board info:
Board: Wistron 30B5 62.57
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Hewlett-Packard F.34 06/02/2007
Under MultiMedia is says none detected.

I googled Legacy Audio Drivers and couldn't figure out what to download.

Also, I'm not sure if it's important, but in the device manager there's a whole slew of things "banged" under "other devices": (3) Base System Device, Coprocessor, Other PCI Bridge Device, PCI Device, SM Bus Controller, and Unknown Device. Could one of these be my sound card and it's just not recognized as such? Each item that is "banged" has "unknown manufacturer" and windows can't automatically find the drivers (obviously).

So. What do I do? This is my bosses computer and he's getting pretty mad that I "messed up" his computer. I'd really appriciate any help you guys could offer. Thanks ahead of time!
