No Sound from PC

Hi, just replaced CD-R/W With DVD R/W drive and now no sound on my home pc.
Checked System prop's and no problems shown there, open Nvida Mixer and it shows sound input in the EQ Spec analyzer and output VU, but no sound is coming out the speaker port. I checked the cable from the DVD to the M-board and it's ok. The other DVD drive also shows sound input in the Mixer.
Did I somehow fry my audio input or output? Do I need to replace the audio with a PCI sound card?
System:
ASUS A7N8X AMD Athon 64
2gb ram
Onboard Realtec acl650 (AC97) Audio, with Nvidia Nforce audio.

Thanks, DanaJ

Danaj,

Check your BIOS to see if your sound card has some how become disabled.

Trying a PCi card may help to diagnose the fault more

Thanks for the reply Kevin. I checked the bios and everything is ok there. The audio shows input in the Nvidia Mixer just no output, tried headphones instead of the speakers, but no sound.
I may just have to put in an add in sound card. Somehow fried the output I guess.
Now I'll have to go thru the hassle of disabling the onboard sound so it don't conflict with the new card. oh boy!

Sometimes a new card will disable the onboard, so you may not even have to do it
