Slow start-up help please?

Hello friends,

Lately I have been experiencing a very slow shut-down and start-up time, roughly about 3 minutes.

Ok, my system is an AMD 2.6 duel core, 2 gig ram, SLI, 550 WATT power supply, water-cooled system with on board fan speed control running about 4 fans. I am running Windows XP Pro.

I used C-Cleaner, Ad-Aware, Spy Sweeper but neither has made my system any faster in start-up, and I am running CA Virus Security Suite software. Only firewall running is through Windows XP.

I don't have anything running in the background that I know of to slow this start-up down and shut-down so I was wondering, with the system only being 1 year old, could the processor be going bad?

Any advice as always would be greatly appreciated.

Morriah,

Have you tried to disable some of the start up files in Msconfig? If you have too many, the Pc will indeed be slow in shutting down, starting up and in general use.

The processor could be bad, but then again, so can any other hardware on your PC be causing slowness, RAM, memory, CPU, Hard drive, motherboard, USB ports.

Hi Friends,

I had my internet provider come out and look at my connections and dsl modem. They checked everything with a fine tooth comb and found nothing wrong on their part.

Ok, so now, how do I do this without it cost me a fortune? They recommended as some of you did, that it could be memory going bad or the processor. I talked to the people at Cyberpower.com who built my system just over a year ago (figures it would be after the warranty just runs out), they also said the same thing, memory, or processor. Also recommended reinstalling Windows XP Pro but I can not see how that would be a solution since the rest of my system seems fine?

Again to recap the problem before we start putting money into this, its only the internet that I seem to have problems with. I can navigate offline just fine. Its just when I am connected that my system crawls through each and every website, and webpage. It happens 80% of the time, sometimes it runs just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had an interesting thought friends, could it possibly be the built in network adapter that comes with the motherboard? I think for simplicity purposes, it might be the easiest way to find out if I buy an inexpensive one. I hooked my dsl line directly to my laptop and there at it runs fine, no slowing of the net.

Just fishing for ideas.

Sounds like to found the root of your trouble.
