Unhappy Remote Desktop/Access Help

Hey ya'll, I am desperately trying to get some help with Remote Desktop, and for some reason I keep hitting a wall. Am I supposed to have XP Pro for it to work? I am currently on an HP computer that is running on XP Media Center Edition 2002 with Service Pack 2. I have gone through all the steps of allowing Remote Desktop, but still to no avail. Would anyone be interested in walking me through this? Let me know what you think when you have the chance. Thanks!

P.S. I forgot to mention that I have DSL through SBC/Yahoo using a 2Wire 1800HG Wireless Router (I think). I am wanting to access my home desktop computer from work using my work laptop, which is running on XP Pro Version 2002 with Service Pack 2. If you know of a better way than using Windows Remote Connection tool, then I welcome any and all suggestions. But I am really looking for someone who might be interested in tackling this problem with me. Thanks for all that you do!

what problems are u encountering?

did u configure your router to allow inbound connections to Remote Desktop on your local computer?

Is there any firewalls blocking access ?

something else to consider also..VPN software...sumtin free like UltraVNC

and my favourite that i use daily (VNC)

Well, I guess I feel like I am doing everything that Microsoft instructs me to do to enable Remote Desktop, and to get it working, but for some reason, it is unable to connect. I am having the same problem using some sofware that I found that allows you to connect remotely to your Itunes music collection from another computer. It's just not letting me connect, and I can't figure out what it is. I have gone in and messed with trying to open ports, and I have heard that you can use "port forwarding," but I don't have a clue how to do that. I could send you screen captures of whatever you need to see on my computer if that would help you get a better picture of what's going on. Let me know what I should do... Thanks.

are u able to see a page in the router where u can port forward ?

do u have a software firewall running that might be blocking it also?

Router

Hey, I don't have any other software firewall that might be preventing it from working. Let me attach the screen capture of what my firewall settings looks like for my 2Wire router...

As far as I know, this is the only page that I can see that has to do with inserting ports. I'm not sure how to enter the ports, or whether to do TCP or UDP...
